La Jollan Joins UCSD Alumni Board of Directors

Megan Bettilyon, an administrative coordinator for the San Diego Center for Algae Biotechnology in La Jolla, is one of four new UC San Diego Alumni Board of Directors.

The Alumni Board of Directors has a younger look. The organization, which oversees alumni programs and community outreach, announced the appointment of four new members on August 2.

The four new members are Megan Bettilyon, an administrative coordinator for the San Diego Center for Algae Biotechnology; Sandi Logan, vice president of casting for ABC Entertainment; Mark Suster, general partner at GRP Partners, the largest venture capital firm in Southern California; and San Diegan Suzanne Valentine, senior vice president of science and analytics at DemandTec.

Bettilyon works and lives in La Jolla. She completed her undergraduate degree in 2007 and her master’s degree in 2010.

Armin Afsahi, executive director of UCSD Alumni Association said the new board members bring new energy and talent to the board.

“Our board is poised to make a powerful leap forward in engaging our alumni in all facets of the university” said Afashi in an announcement.

The new directors will join the current 32-member board and serve as the representative voice of more than 130,000 alumni around the world.

The alumni organization also raises money for student scholarships. In less than 40 years, the alumni association has raised $6.5 million for scholarships, according to the university.
