La Jolla Native Shelly Micolino Joins Muirlands Faculty

This true San Diego girl, born and raised in La Jolla, joined Muirlands Middle School as a 6th and 7th grade history teacher this year.

Shelly Micolino headed back to her very own middle school, joining as a history teacher last month.

Micolino taught for the past two years at Mark Twain High School in Mira Mesa as an English teacher, but is excited to get to use of her History degree from .

Seventh grade history gets interesting Micolino said, “students start to see how different cultures interact as they learn about the Age of Enlightenment and Reason.”

Micolino's classroom style is goal oriented and focused on helping students transition between elementary and high school. Middle school students are also the most exciting to teach according to Micolino. 

“The kids are so eager and excited to learn,” she said, “they ask very good questions and I love to watch them learn.”

Micolino is also ready for the football games to start, since the campus is so close, she will definitely be attending.

Along with football games, Micolino enjoys going to the La Jolla beaches and grabbing a bite from the Sandwich Club.
