La Jolla Art & Wine Festival Raises $100,000 for Local Schools

Four local schools received $25,000 each from this year's La Jolla Art & Wine Festival fundraising to benefit underfunded school programs.

The La Jolla Art & Wine Festival, which took place earlier this month, achieved its most successful year yet. The festival’s fourth year earnings more than doubled the previous year’s, raising a total of $100,000 in two days.

The festival first began in 2009 to raise money for underfunded programs at the local elementary schools. In the first three years the annual event raised a total of $120,000 to benefit Bird Rock Elementary, La Jolla Elementary and Torrey Pines Elementary. Muirlands Middle School was included in the fundraising for the first time this year.

This year each school has received $25,000 that will go towards funding programs such as art, music, on-site medical care, physical education, science and technology.
