Actress McDonough was cast as Erin Walton in The Homecoming, the movie of the week that inspired the Emmy award-winning dramatic series The Waltons. She was 10 years old.
In her book, Lessons From the Mountain, McDonough shares behind-the-scenes memories of co-stars Will Geer, Richard Thomas, Patricia Neal and Michael Learned. McDonough also discusses her struggles to find herself after the series ended and her discovery that she had lupus, the auto-immune disorder.
