Bishop’s Fundraiser Rocks with ‘Foreigner’

Legendary band Foreigner played the Bishop's School's annual fundraiser on the school's La Jolla campus.

The annual fundraiser was held April 16 on the La Jolla campus grounds with the theme "Say You Will." The dress attire was rock ’n’ roll and the star entertainment was Foreigner, known for such mega-hits as “Hot Blooded," "Urgent," and "Cold as Ice."

Those in attendance included Debby and Wain Fishburn, Suzanne Weiner, Jake Figi, Patsy and David Marino, Rhonda and Michael Gallegos, Kathliene and Jon Sundt, Jennifer and Michael Spengler, and Kelly and Mike Dorvillier (they hosted the pre-event wine donation party). In addition, Dayna and Tom Arnold (they underwrote the patron reception and the after-concert meet and greet with Foreigner) and Bishop’s Head of School Aimeclaire Roche were in attendance. Co-chairwomen were Patricia Brutten, Maureen Gibbons and Donna Walker.

"It was a fabulous evening and our co-chairs really pulled out all the stops to make this an event like no other," said Jennifer Spengler. "It truly was a party with a purpose and the Bishop's community will enjoy the benefits for years to come as one of the country's exceptional academic institutions."

Co-chairwoman Donna Walker added: “Each year the auction raises approximately $1 million in direct support of the financial aid and faculty professional growth programs."

Bidding on live auction items such as dining with Condoleezza Rice, a one-week stay on Tavarua Island in Fiji, and the opportunity to sing back-up on stage with Foreigner for the song "I Want to Know What Love Is" will surely help reach that million dollar goal.

The evening started with offerings of the signature Cabowaborita drink, a silent auction of goods running the gamut of a two-day staycation at to a Heinz Autohaus auto detail.

Dinner stations by Giuseppe Restaurants and fine catering provided such delicious bites as knock out gnocchi with spring peas, mushrooms and truffle-thyme sauce, and light-as-air fried calamari.

Then there was the wine auction. All wines were 90 plus points rated, and all were donated by Bishop’s School supporters.
