Controversial New High School Graduation Requirements Explained

SDUSD is changing the high school graduation requirements for students currently in 8th grade and below.

San Diego Unified School District Assistant Superintedents are scheduled to speak at on Monday at 6 p.m. to discuss new high school requirements to La Jolla parents.

  1. UC/CSU A through G course sequence to be implemented starting with the class of 2016.
  2. Career Readiness graduation requirements (Class of 2016 to complete 1-year Career Technical Education (CTE) course; Class of 2017 and beyond to complete 2-year CTE sequence).

What does this mean? There are many opinions floating around because these requirements are going to drastically change the classes students will have to take starting in their seventh grade in order for them to complete all new requirements. There is also great concern about how these new requirements are going to be implemented with staff reductions.

Sid Salazar, Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Support Services will help answer this questions.

School Board Member Scott Barnett will also be attending. Barnett will have to vote on the CRCP requirements during the April board meeting.
