The San Diego Ad Club presented 151 ADDY awards in 70 advertising, digital and graphic design categories, culled from more than 262 entries, at its recent 2014 American Advertising Awards Gala, held Feb. 28. Best of Show awards were presented to Piston in the professional category and Lynette Rios of San Diego Portfolio Studio in the student category. Mark Murphy of Murphy Design received two special judges awards for two books, including Tim Mantoani Behind Photographs and The Cartoon Network’s 20th Birthday.
First-place Gold award winners included: Piston, Murphy Design, Mantooth Studios, MJD Interactive, Mother Sponge, Tallgrass Pictures, VITRO and Wasserman Media Group. Gold winners will be forwarded by the Ad Club to a district competition comprising Southern California and Southern Nevada, with district winners forwarded to the national American Advertising Awards, presented by the American Advertising Federation (AAF). AAF is a national advertising trade organization with members comprising more than 200 local advertising clubs, including the San Diego Ad Club. The national ADDYs program is known as the world’s largest and arguably the toughest advertising competition with more than 50,000 entries annually.
