Pacific Beach TV exec inviting 60 years of Channel 6 memories

Remember growing up with Channel 6? TV exec is looking for 60 years of Channel 6 memories

XETV/San Diego 6 is planning its 60th anniversary to be celebrated in 2013. Pacific Beach resident Chuck Dunning, vice president and general manager of XETV/San Diego 6, said the station is looking for old photos and favorite memories from current and former employees, friends and viewers. Dunning said photos and videos can be sent to 60Years@SanDiego6.com.

As part of a yearlong celebration, Dunning said Channel 6 is planning a series of “Happy Birthday” vignettes from dignitaries and celebrities, programming marathons featuring best-known shows from the 1950s through the 2000s, as well as vintage promos and commercials from long-running clients. An alumni party is expected to be held in spring 2013, he said.

XETV was the second TV station to serve San Diego. After KFMB-TV went on the air in 1949, XETV-TV arrived on April 29, 1953, followed by KGTV-TV (then KFSD) in September 1953.
