Tax Board Releases List of Delinquent Taxpayers; List Includes 3 La Jolla Residents

Three La Jolla residents owe a total of $627,048.18 in back taxes.

The California Franchise Tax Board issued Thursday a list of the "Top 500 Delinquent Taxpayers."

The delinquent taxpayers—which includes Barbara L. and Jeffrey E. Lubin with $321,834 in back taxes and Timoth I. Mathues with $305,215 in back taxes—face a number of new consequences including:

  • Publishing the names and titles of corporate officers of listed corporations.
  • Publishing professional license information
  • Authorizing FTB to enter into reciprocal agreements with other states to offset refunds and collect tax debt
  • Prohibiting state agencies from entering into contracts with the Top 500

The FTB began issuing the list of top offenders in 2007 and has collected nearly $177 million, according to a press release. However, the list excludes tax liabilities under appeal, in litigation, or in bankruptcy proceedings. The list will be updated again in April.
