The 43-foot cross atop Mount Soledad has caused debate near and wide for years now. And just yesterday, a federal judge in San Diego issued an order declaring that the cross violates the the U.S. Constitution. But, Patch wants to know, what do you think?

La Jollans, this is a structure in your community. What do you think of the cross? Should it stay or should it go? Please tell us in the comment section below. We hope to engage community dialogue about the cross, which was first erected in 1954.

I got an idea. Since it is such a prime location why don't we replace the cross with an equivalent to the statue of liberty, maybe a male form. That way you have a welcoming entity on both sides of the coast representing both genders of a single family of the same country. PS. Don't make it look like the Jesus of Rio De Janeiro

Ours is a Christian based country and these people of other nationalities come here then wish to Drag down our values and customs. If you desire your old ways stay there and live your dream, if not get with the program. WE don't need more trying to get in on the free ride they think they are entitled to.

The cross should stay. Tolerance is a concept we are quickly forgetting about in this country , which was founded on the principles of freedom & tolerance . Why do we feel compelled to dismantle a majestic piece of art ? The religious aspect of this art work is not paramount in it's display . We can honor all veterans , regardless of religious affiliation at this location . Those who are offended should view the cross as a mere marker , an X marks the spot type of thing and they are free to do so. Others may view the cross as a symbol of their choosing . All of this begs the question... why can we no longer all get along ? Regardless, it would be better behaivior if those opposed, displayed a bit of grace and allowed this debate to end peacifully . I guess I am dreaming of more tolerant times in this countries past...too bad.

I feel indifferent about the matter until I read obnoxious and apparently un-ironic comments like James Jones'. It puts the lie to Tony B's "tolerance" argument - there's nothing tolerant about people like James Jones. Ugh, get rid of it.
