Some Property Owners to Receive Tax Refunds

The county is mailing checks to more than 2,000 owners of properties that were reassessed.

The county of San Diego Treasurer-Tax Collector’s office began mailing more than $1.1 million in property tax refunds on Friday.

The checks will go to the owners of 2,388 properties that were reassessed downward in the last six to eight months, Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister said.

“We are preparing to mail more than a million dollars in refund checks before the Christmas weekend,” McAllister said. “It is our hope to bring Christmas cheer to our taxpayers in the next couple of days.”

He said a large number of property sales in the second half of the year prompted the reassessments.

The average refund will be $467.19. The biggest check is $15,869.50, and the smallest is $10.
