Smooth Driving in La Jolla, Push to Fix Potholes

The city's Street Division will work on filling potholes in District 1 through Friday.

Councilwoman Sherri Lightner hosted a conference to kick off a push for pothole repairs in District 1, including La Jolla, on Wednesday afternoon.

Lightner said recent heavy rains have opened up new potholes in the streets.

“I felt it was necessary to fill what we have now before the real rainy season starts,” said Lightner. “City staff agreed to do a hard target search and fill pothole roundup in District 1.”

Staff created a “to-do” list, which contains more than 60 streets, from constituent suggestions, recommendations through Facebook and Twitter, and staff surveillance.

A similar pothole-filling event took place after last year when city crews filled more than 160 potholes in La Jolla in one week.

Lightner added that whenever she speaks to area residents, the state of streets is a top concern.

To report potholes in your neighborhood, call Lightner’s office at 619-236-6611 or email sherrilightner@sandiego.gov or directly contact the street division at 619-527-7500 or visit sandiego.gov/street-div/holes.shtml.

“When I was elected, I made a commitment to providing top-notch constituent services, and street repairs are the most common constituent request. My staff is great at helping residents navigate the process and providing follow-up,” Lightner said at the event in La Jolla Shores.
