SANDAG Executive Director Appointed to National Transportation Council

Gary Gallegos will join a council that provides guidance to the U.S. secretary of transportation.

SANDAG Executive Director Gary Gallegos was appointed to a two-year term representing California on the Marine Transportation Advisory Council, it was announced Tuesday.

Gallegos will join the council in providing policy recommendations to U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood. The recommendations include guidance on how to improve the country's marine transportation system, according to SANDAG.

“Gary Gallegos brings local, regional and national expertise to the table on the issue of goods movement,” SANDAG Chairman and Encinitas Deputy Mayor Jerome Stocks said. “He will be an excellent addition to this important national advisory council.”

According to SANDAG, all council members are executives from leading carriers, shippers, port and waterway agencies, labor groups, academia, and different levels of governments.

The council will pay specific attention to the expansion and development of the nation’s marine highway and port system through its Marine Highway Subcommittee and the Port Advisory Council.
