Longtime telecommunications executive Mark Leslie is the new president and CEO of the San Diego County Taxpayers Association, the organization announced Friday.
Leslie retired from AT&T two years ago after a 40-year career. He was board chairman of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce in 2012 and held the same position for the United Way of San Diego in 2010-11.
"This is a home run for San Diego's taxpayers," SDCTA Chairman of the Board Greg Stein said. "Our search committee set out to find a leader who is passionate about our ideals, understands our non-partisan taxpayer-oriented policy role, and owns a track record of accomplishments that generates excitement among our members and the community -- we got exactly that with Mark Leslie."

The 61-year-old has lived in San Diego for more than 50 years.
He succeeds interim President and CEO Sean Karafin, who took the reins from Felipe Monroig when Monroig left the taxpayers group to join the administration of San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer.
