San Diego County Supervisors Give First Approval to Change District Boundaries

The San Diego Board of Supervisors gave preliminary approval to push Supervisor Ron Roberts' district toward the coast and push out Supervisor Pam Slater-Price.

County Supervisor Pam Slater-Price may not represent La Jollans soon. The San Diego County Supervisors unanimously supported one of three redistrict plans on Tuesday to shift district lines in the county and ultimately push Slater-Price out of La Jolla and Pacific Beach.

State law requires the County Board of Supervisors to adjust the boundaries of supervisorial districts every 10 years to balance populations in the districts in accordance with latest census data.

While there are still two more votes needed to approve the proposed redistricting map, Slater-Price said it has been an honor to represent the coastal communities of La Jolla and Pacific Beach.

“Pacific Beach residents and La Jollans care deeply about their quality of life and the quality of life of their children and future generations,” said Slater-Price. “Volunteers on the town councils and other organizations give freely of their time to benefit everyone. I could not have asked for more deeply caring citizens than in Pacific Beach and La Jolla.”

Under the proposed redistricting plan, Supervisor Ron Roberts’ district would extend toward the coast and Slater-Price would gain University City and Mira Mesa. Roberts would also gain a larger part of the downtown district represented by Supervisor Greg Cox. Other supervisorial districts would be changed little.

Slater-Price said she was happy to keep Escondido and its developing arts scene and noted that University City was in her district 10 years ago.

July 12 is the next hearing and the final vote is scheduled for August 2.
