Romneys Buy House in Park City; Earn Approval to Expand in La Jolla

Mitt and Ann Romney have some home decorating to plan. The couple recently purchased an $8.9 million home in Park City, Utah and received approval to move forward with the expansion of their La Jolla home at Friday's California Coastal Commission.

Forbes reported the purchase by the former Massachusetts governor and presidential hopeful on Wednesday. The house built in 1991, has 6 bedroom, 8 bathrooms and more than 8,700 square feet of living space.

According to Forbes, the property description stated: “As featured in Architectural Digest, this ‘Utah Rustic’ home gave renowned local architect Fred Babcock the opportunity to stretch beyond what one assumed could normally be achieved in log construction. Comprised of whole logs and many local materials, interior designer David Krajeski created an interior that invites both grand entertaining and cozy relaxation. The architectural design is centered on the two-story great room with massive stone fireplace and magnificent views to the Uinta Mountains and beyond.’’

The Utah home, the Romneys' fourth property, is much smaller than the planned La Jolla home expansion.

The Romenys' oceanfront La Jolla home is currently 3,100 square feet. The couple purchased the one-story, three-bedroom house in 2008 for $12 million. The expansion would bring the total size to more than 11,000 square feet including basement. The design plans include a pool, spa, retaining walls and seawall on a lot that is less than a half-acre.
