Texas Hold ‘Em is a variation of poker where each participant is dealt two cards, face down. Only the cardholder sees what they have. Next, the dealer puts down five“community cards” face up that all players can use in their hand. The first three are called “the flop,” the next card is  “the turn” and the final card is “the river.” Players make their best hands with three of the community cards and their two cards in their hand.

The Town Council Charity Poker game is no-limit. There are $20 buy-ins for $100 worth of chips, with multiple re-buys allowed. All of the money will go toward community activities that involve the town council.

If you’re not a huge poker player, you’re still invited to come and watch. Cigars will be available for smoking outside by the fire pit, drinks like Scotch and tequila will be available for sipping and Hennessey’s will be selling their burgers two for the price of one.

Want to take a stab at Texas Hold ‘Em? The fun is tonight, beginning at 6 p.m. at Hennessey’s, located at 7811 Herschel Avenue. The card games start at 7 p.m. RSVP is preferred, but not required. Email the La Jolla Town Council Membership chair John Weinstein at john.p.weinstein@mssb.com with questions or an RSVP. While no prizes will be given for winners, recognition will be awarded to the best players of the night.

Good luck!
