Mayor Filner Gets Memed While Career Gets Maimed

It didn't take long for San Diego Mayor Bob Filner to get his own meme after  allegations of sexual harassment surfaced last week. No, it is not Filner thrusting to the Harlem Shake or posing as the Ridiculously Photogenic Guy, he's been made into a 'Go Home, You're Drunk" meme.

In this viral trend, creators type comments over a photo of the subject to point out their failures or misfortunes. Each has "Go home. You're drunk" as well. Here is another example made in La Jolla.

Filner's meme states "I'm a hugger. Of both men and women. Go home, Bob. You're drunk."

The mayor described himself as a demonstrative "hugger" of both men and women, and that he needed a "greater self-awareness" about what he was doing.

"This is not about hugging," Council President Todd Gloria said in the KPBS interview. "It's far more dangerous than that."

This meme creator and Gloria are not the only person pointing out Filner's alleged errors. Numerous political and community leaders have asked him to step down.

Filner previously apologized and acknowledged that he had diminished the office of mayor, but later said he would be vindicated if provided due process. 

Filner renewed his refusal to resign Monday morning, saying "as a citizen of this country, I also expect—and am entitled to—due process, and the opportunity to respond in a fair and impartial venue to specific allegations."
