Lightner Releases February Newsletter

Councilwoman Sherri Lightner recently released "The SpotLight," District 1's monthly newsletter on Feb. 14.

Every month San Diego Councilwoman Sherri Lightner publishes The SpotLight, a newsletter for District 1 residents. This month's highlights include an update on legislation to save San Diego special events such as the La Jolla fireworks show and an effort to on Wall Street.

Lightner reported that as a result of ongoing litigation over how the city permits its special events, some of San Diego's "most treasured traditions are being held hostage," including the July fireworks and .

"To bring common sense back to the City of San Diego' event permitting process, the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce is working with State Senator Juan Vargas and Assemblymember Martin Garrick on proposed state legislation (SB 973) that would exempt park use and special event permits from costly environmental reviews," The Spotlight reported.
