La Jolla Parkway Median Makeover

The long median along La Jolla Parkway will soon be upgraded.

Tony Crisafi, principal architect of La Jolla-based Island Architects, announced last week to the La Jolla Village Merchants Association (LJVMA) that the neglected median at the top of La Jolla Parkway would get a makeover.

The very long median, which is overgrown with weeds, will be resurfaced with cobblestone. The median is a teardrop shape and located east of Hidden Valley Road on La Jolla Parkway.

The project cost, with donated design time from Island Architects, support from City Councilwoman Sherri Lightner's office, and a grant from the La Jolla Community Foundation, is $60,000.

LJVMA President Phil Coller stressed the importance of doing this project with local resources. He said it would cost six to seven times more for the city to research, design and install the planned resurfaced median.
