Interim Mayor Appoints New COO and Assistant COO in San Diego

Stacey LoMedico was promoted from director of Parks and Recreation to assistant chief operating officer and Scott Chadwick moved up to COO.

Interim Mayor Todd Gloria announced two more appointments to his leadership team Thursday.

Stacey LoMedico was promoted from director of Parks and Recreation to assistant chief operating officer. Mary Lewis returned to her former position as the city's chief financial officer, he said.

LoMedico, in her former position since 2007, is succeeding Scott Chadwick, who moved up to COO Thursday. His promotion, announced earlier this month, was confirmed by the City Council Tuesday.

Gloria said LoMedico has spent three decades working for the city in various departments, beginning as an intern.

Lewis was CFO and financial management director for six years under former Mayor Jerry Sanders. She left two years ago to become CFO of the San Diego City Employees Retirement System.

Gloria said Lewis has "impeccable" judgment.

"Adding these high caliber people to our city's leadership positions will allow additional progress for our city," Gloria said.

Gloria faced numerous vacancies in management jobs when he took over after the resignation of Mayor Bob Filner Aug. 30. Many city executives resigned as Filner's administration dissolved under allegations of sexual harassment, shakedowns of developers and misuse of city funds.

He found that a large number of seats on city boards and commissions were unfilled, causing some of the panels to not meet for lack of a quorum. The City Council began confirming his appointments to the affected groups this week.
