UPDATE: Melendez, Magee, Both Gun Owners

Lake Elsinore City Councilwoman, who is vying for a State Assembly seat, received an "A" rating from the California Rifle and Pistol Association; Bob Magee, not so much.

UPDATED 2:55 p.m.

Both Councilman Bob Magee and Councilwoman Melissa Melendez own guns, they told Patch Thursday.

“And I always know where my gun is,” Melendez told Patch.

The councilwoman, who is running for the state Legislature, said she keeps her pistol in a combination safe.

Owning a gun may scare some people, Melendez said, but "I’m more afraid of the person that wants to do me harm,” she said in an interview.

Magee said he also owns a gun and does not know why he received a poor rating on a report prepared by the The California Rifle and Pistol Association.

He told Patch in an email that he is a "strong supporter of preserving and protecting the 2nd Amendment."

"I would recommend that you direct your question to the group handing out the grades."

According to the report, which readers can access by clicking on the PDF to the right of this article, an "A" rating "indicates a pro-gun candidate who strongly supports CRPA positions on second amendment and hunting related issues."

A D rating "indicates a candidate that sometimes supports some CRPA positions but is not consistently a pro-gun or pro-hunting candidate.

Lake Elsinore City Councilwoman Melissa Melendez recently received an "A" rating from The California Rifle and Pistol Association.

But Councilman Bob Magee received a "C" rating.

The association released its ratings for the five candidates for the State Assembly's District 67.

Also receiving "A" ratings were Phil Paule, of French Valley and Ken Dickson, of Murrieta, earned an "A" rating.

The association is dedicated to promoting firearm freedoms and shooting sports in the State of California.

I hope she wins. That way she can do battle against that idiot in LA State Senator Deleon, that guy is HUGE anti gun! Support your 2nd Ammendment Rights, buy a gun, and buy local too!

Any politician that is against the 2nd Amendment is someone to be concerned with. Last time I check, all because you have the right to purchase a firearm it does not mean that the government will force you or expects to buy one. What is exactly is wrong with having an individual liberty? If you are anti-gun, don't buy one! If you are the type of person that likes waiting the five to eight minutes that it takes for an LEO (law enforcement officer) to respond and come to your aid, I believe that you should have that right. Let me add that I hope that everything turns out well for your loved ones if you should ever have the occasion to test their response time. "SI VIS PACEM, PARA BELLUM"
