Get Active, Attend Feb. CPA Meeting

The La Jolla Community Planning Committee met Jan. 5 at the La Jolla Recreation Center. The trustees voted on several developments permits.

If you are a member of the La Jolla Community Planning Committee and have not attended a meeting in the past 11 months, the Feb. 2 meeting is your last chance to stay in good standing. The local Community Planning Committee requires all members to attend at least one meeting in a 12-month period, which ends Feb. 28 this year.

The CPA reminded the community of this requirement at its Jan. 5 meeting at the .

If your level of interest in the Community Planning Committee is more robust, you can run for one of seven open trustee positions in the upcoming election. Interested candidates must own property, live or work in La Jolla; have attended three meetings in the past year; and indicate interest in running by the Feb. 2 meeting. Interested candidates can notify the CPA by email info@lajollacpa.org or by announcing interest at the Feb. 2 meeting.

  • The CPA ratified Myrna Naegle as a La Jolla Shores Permit Review Committee member. The La Jolla Shores Permit Review Committee appointed Naegle at its December meeting.
  • CPA Trustee Devin Burstein resigned. Burstein resigned due to his absence at three consecutive meetings.
  • The CPA approved Phase 1 of the Avenida de la Playa Infrastructure Replacement Project. The project will replace the undersized storm drain system along Avenida de la Playa in La Jolla Shores. (Read more here.)
  • The CPA approved the Coastal Development Permit for a 10,744 square foot, two-story residence at 8440 and 8450 Whale Watch Way.
  • The CPA approved a motion that findings can be made for a Coastal Development Permit and Sewer Easement Vacation at 310 and 318 Dunemere Dr. The motion allows owners to re-route a sewer line from under a house to under a walkway.
  • The CPA approved a motion that findings can be made for a Coastal Development permit to demolish the existing residence and construction at 5,660-square-foot, two-story, single-family residence at 1654 Marisma Way. The lot is 0.61 acres.
  • Councilmember Sherri Lightner attended the meeting to provide an update on District 1 news. Highlights include and Lightner’s new appointment to chair the new , which is focused on the long-term vision for San Diego's economy as well as streamline the city's processes.
  • City Council introduced himself to the CPA and the public. Ellis, president of the San Diego City Employees' Retirement System (SDCERS), announced in August that he would run for City Council in next year’s primary election against incumbent Lightner.
