Police Run ‘Click It or Ticket’ Campaign Through June 5

  • Law enforcement in California will be looking for unbelted drivers and passengers as part of the 2011 “Click It or Ticket” campaign from May 23 to June 5. The California Highway Patrol and local police will be joining in.

The fine for first-time adult violations is a minimum of $142. For children under 16, that rises to $445.

Night-time enforcement will be a big part of the campaign, officials said. Nationwide, of the fatalities in overnight crashes in 2009, 62 percent were not wearing seat belts. Authorities estimate that motorists improve their chances of surviving a crash by 50 percent if they wear seat belts.
