Veterans Day Celebration at Mt. Soledad Remembers Fallen Police Officer

Fallen officer Jeremy Henwood was honored with a ceremony and plaque at Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial on Saturday. Henwood was a San Diego Police Officer and Marine Reservist.

Fallen police Officer Jeremy Henwood, a four-year veteran of the San Diego Police Department and a Marine reservist, was remembered during a Veterans Week Ceremony in La Jolla on Saturday.

Henwood, 36, was fatally wounded while on patrol on Aug. 6, 2011 in City Heights neighborhood of San Diego.

He was honored with a plaque. He joins 3,500 other Veterans with plaques at Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial.

The event was attended by numerous veterans, law enforcement members and San Diego County dignitaries, including San Diego Councilwoman Sherri Lightner, whose district includes La Jolla.

"The selection of Officer Henwood is well chosen," said Interim Mayor Todd Gloria. "I hope that you see by the presence today that the passage of time has not dampened our love and our appreciation for your son and his service to our city," he was quoted as saying to Henwood's father in the U-T San Diego.

The U-T reported that Henwood enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve after graduating high school and was deployed multiple times to Iraq and Afghanistan.
