Tractor Trailer Smashes La Jolla Hydrant, Flooding Home

The crash caused a 50- to 60-foot geyser to soar into the air.

A tractor trailer crashed into a fire hydrant at the intersection of La Jolla Boulevard and Camino De La Costa just after 8:30 a.m. Thursday, causing a 50- to 60-foot geyser to soar into the air and flood at least one home.

No injuries were reported.

A man at 5875 La Jolla Blvd. said his home was being flooded, and four units were evacuated, San Diego police Lt. Kevin Mayer said in an email. Firefighters turned off the water to the hydrant at 8:53 a.m. A water department spokesperson said it could be two to five days until the hydrant is repaired.
