Teacher Admits To Bringing Gun To School

Ned Carter Walker initially tried to fight the charges, but changed his plea to avoid jail time.

A San Diego middle school teacher who allegedly brought a loaded gun and a knife to work pleaded guilty Wednesday to the felony charge of firearm possession on school grounds, Fox 5 San Diego reported.

Ned Carter Walker, an English teacher at Farb Middle School in Tierrasanta, was taken into custody on school grounds in February and placed on paid leave. Farb Middle School is 12 miles from La Jolla schools, which are all part of San Diego Unified School District.

Walker initially tried to fight the charges, but changed his plea to avoid jail time.

Walker’s attorney said his client argued that he was carrying the weapons because he didn’t want to be “in a position where if some idiot comes into our school that I would be unable to protect these kids.”

The judge on Walker’s case said she may reduce the charge against him to a misdemeanor if he completes 18 months of probation and a gun safety class.
