Surfer Injured at La Jolla Shores Sunday

A surfer was struck in the head by a surfboard.

A 40-year-old surfer was injured during an outing at La Jolla Shores today when he was struck in the head by a surfboard, lifeguards said.

The man walked up to the lifeguard tower with a laceration to his head about 11:45 a.m., San Diego Lifeguard Lt. Andy Lerum said.

Lifeguards helped the man control the bleeding, and called paramedics to as well, Lerum said.

It was unclear whether the man was taken to a hospital. Lerum said lifeguards expected the man to recover.
