SDPD Issued 101 Alcohol-Related Citations at the Beach on July 4

City officials estimated approximately 409,000 people visited the San Diego city beaches and bay on July 4.

San Diego police made six felony arrests, 41 misdemeanor arrests and issued 101 alcohol-related citations in Mission Beach, Pacific Beach and La Jolla's sand over the Fourth of July holiday, police said Saturday.

Another 36 misdemeanor citations were issued for offenses not involving alcohol; nine minors were found to be in possession of alcohol, and 197 motorists were cited for various violations from 7 a.m. Tuesday through 11 p.m. Wednesday at the beaches, San Diego police Capt. Brian Ahearn said.

Fifty-seven parking tickets were issued, he said.

He attributed the relatively orderly behavior to cooperation between citizen groups and public safety employees.

“City officials estimate approximately 409,000 people visited the beach and bay areas during the (holiday),” Ahearn said. “Despite the large crowds at the beaches, bays, parks and entertainment district, the holiday was a safe and enjoyable one for residents and visitors alike.”
