SDPD Asks Public for Help in Hit-And-Run Investigation in La Jolla

A 51-year-old man was struck crossing the street on the 7000 block of La Jolla Boulevard in Windansea when he was hit by an SUV on Feb. 6.

Authorities asked the public on Tuesday for help in identifying a motorist involved in a hit-and-run crash that severely injured a pedestrian trying to cross a La Jolla street.

The 51-year-old victim was walking across the 7000 block of La Jolla Boulevard when a dark-gray northbound vehicle hit him shortly before 6:30 p.m. Feb. 6, according to San Diego police.

As the driver fled the area, a woman in a red Range Rover SUV gave chase, but she did not return to the accident site or contact authorities.

The hit-and-run motorist was described as a dark-haired white or Hispanic man, possibly wearing a red or green plaid jacket. He was driving a Toyota 4Runner or similar vehicle with a license-plate number beginning with the characters "5" and "D," possibly followed by a "6" or "G."

The victim is still recovering from his injuries four weeks after the accident, police said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
