President's Same-Sex Stance Will Help, Poll Indicates

A non-scientific poll created by Patch two weeks ago asked readers whether they thought the president's recent positive stance on gay marriage would help or hurt his reelection chances.

Of 47 readers who took a Patch poll on President Barack Obama's recent positive stance on gay marriage, the majority indicated they thought his support of it would help his reelection bid.

The poll, while not scientific, does provide insight about how Patch reders view one of the most controversial issues of the current presidential campaign.

The poll results show that 18 people, or 38 percent of the 47 who answered, believe that the president's pro gay-marriage stance will help him in his reelection bid.

Fifteen people -- 31 percent -- said that they hated the fact that the president took the pro-gay stance.

And 14 people, or 29 percent, said they believed his views would hurt his chances.

"At a certain point, I've just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married," Obama told ABC News' Robin Roberts in an interview.

Sanctimonious ignorance, religious bigot, blighted soul, straight to hell, sorry that your passion and support for the cause somehow confused my better judgment and that I mistakenly assumed that such strong support would be that of someone that is Gay, and I do apologize. I ask you would you have the same passion if Obama were against same-sex relationships? I also ask you with your passion for civil rights, would you support and feel this strongly for amnesty, illegal immigration? As for your damnation of my soul going straight to Hell, from what I have read of your postings on God, might I suggest that you reap your own words spoken in the name of Christianity, " self-important, self-satisfied, sanctimonious, hypocritical, self-righteous, holier-than-thou, unenlightened, anti-education, anti-science, insular so-called Christians, with your lack of compassion, your bigotry, your direct-line-to God interpretations of morality". And you speak this in the name of Christianity? Wow, I think that we hit a nerve for one to be so defensive.

I like the comment the gasoline is subsidized in America. This is a very bizzare comment.

Wow, BLUESGUITAR777... that IS a long article. I think you're mistaken, though. The majority of Americans are okay with LGBT lifestyle and "...close to two thirds of Americans believe that same-sex unions should be recognized by law," and afforded the same privileges as their hetero counterparts. [1] BTW: I would LOVE to hear your (non-religious based) reasoning as to why the gay lifestyle is immoral. 1. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-57433493-503544/poll-most-americans-support-same-sex-unions/

No, Diana, I say it in my name. I don't need to hide behind God to speak my piece. I send my original sentiments right back to you. You've done nothing to change my mind. Regarding amnesty; in fact, I have no problem with amnesty. And, no, I'm not Hispanic, nor did I get here illegally. My family's been here since 1640--that's.

Dog, one-line zingers are the refuge of someone who has nothing of significance to say. The fact that you continue to believe that Martha and I are the same person says more about your inability to accept the reality that there is more than one person--many, many more--who supports our President and Gay rights. Our beliefs are not the minority opinion you need them to be. You need to talk to lot more under thirty-five year old voters. A large number of that group have difficulty understanding exactly what it is that you fear from Gay citizens having the same rights as the rest of us.
