Police Investigate Homicide in Pacific Beach

Updated at 9:01 p.m., Sept. 21, 2011: The San Diego County Medical Examiners Office reported on Wednesday that a next of kin had not been notified.

San Diego Police are investigating the stabbing of a 23-year-old male inside a Pacific Beach apartment after he allegedly broke in and demanded valuables.

Police reported that at 5:52 a.m., officers were dispatched to Bayard and Emerald streets on a report of a stabbing. Paramedics attempted to save the 23-year-old, who died at the scene at 6:03 a.m., according to police.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the unidentified 23-year-old male climbed through the window of an apartment on Bayard Street and threatened the sleeping residents, according to police. After he made demands for valuables, two males inside the apartment fought with the robber, during which time he was stabbed, police said.

The alleged robber was reportedly wearing a mask, gloves and armed with a replica handgun, according to police. SDPD said he ran from the apartment after being stabbed and phoned a friend for assistance. The friend arrived and reportedly called 911.

At 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police reported that San Diego detectives were obtaining a search warrant to recover evidence, including marijuana believed to be in the apartment.

Police said the occupants of the apartment will be questioned and released pending additional investigation.
