More than 400 local law enforcement officials will participate in a two-day Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics Tuesday and Wednesday.

You might have noticed the police escort of runners in our neighborhood. Local law enforcement are running or biking 80 miles to raise money for the Special Olympics. More than 400 of San Diego County's finest law enforcement, including members of San Diego Police Northern Division, SWAT and U.S. Marshals, will carry the the torch on Tuesday and Wednesday to raise funds and awareness of the 1,200 Special Olympics athletes in this region.

The two-day run started in Chula Vista on Tuesday morning. On Tuesday aftenoon, runners carried the torch up La Jolla Boulevard from Pacific Beach to Pearl Street. Runners also carried the torch up North Torrey Pines Road.

Tomorrow the torch will travel through Del Mar, Cardiff, Carlsbad, Oceanside and CAmp Pendleton. The torch will eventually light the caldron at the Special Olympics Southern California 2012 Summer Games in Long Beach on June 10.
