Paraglider Rescued Near Torrey Pines Gliderport

A 26-year-old man was rescued by San Diego lifeguards after crashing into a coastal bluff on Wednesday.

A man paragliding in the Torrey Pines area crashed onto a coastal bluff on Wednesday afternoon, winding up injured and stranded on the precipice until emergency crews came to his rescue.

The accident near Torrey Pines Gliderport was reported about 5 p.m., San Diego lifeguard Lt. Nick Lerma said.

Emergency crews climbed down to the 26-year-old victim, who was conscious but apparently had suffered an ankle injury and possible head or neck trauma, and loaded him into a transport apparatus. An emergency-services helicopter then hoisted him off the bluff and flew him to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.
