Panga Boat Washed Ashore in La Jolla; Border Patrol Detains 14

Border Patrol agents seized the boat.

A panga boat washed up in La Jolla early Friday and 14 people suspected of entering the country illegally were taken into custody, according to a U.S. Border Patrol official.

Border Patrol agents responded shortly after the open hull fishing vessel on the shore was reported to police about 2:30 a.m., Border Patrol Agent Jerry Conlin said.

Agents on the ground and in a helicopter launched a search that resulted in 13 male suspects and one female suspect, all from Mexico, being taken into custody, Conlin said.
