Man in Critical Condition After Late Night Fight in PB

San Diego Police Department detectives from the Northern Division are investigating a fight that occurred in the Pacific Beach area on Mother’s Day.

Around 1:45 a.m., the victim, Steven Kyle Wood, was walking with his roommate, John Meier westbound on 1100 Garnet after leaving the Tavern Bar. Meier and Wood saw males yelling at each other on the north sidewalk. There were females yelling at the males to stop. Two males threw burritos at two other males. A fight started and a male came from behind Wood and punched him on the face.

Wood and the male squared off to fight with each other. Words were exchanged and the other male walked off with his friends westbound on Garnet Avenue. The male then crossed the street at the corner of Garnet Avenue and Dawes Street.

Wood ran up to the male who was now in the intersection with multiple other people. The crowd quickly dispersed and Meier saw Wood lying in the street unconscious. Meier dragged Wood to the southwest corner when police officers arrived at the scene.

Wood was transported to the hospital by paramedics. Wood underwent surgery and is currently in critical condition.

If anyone has information regarding who was involved in the fight, or can identify any witnesses who were at the scene, please call Detective Gregg Goodman, San Diego Police Department, Northern Division at (858) 552-1733 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
