La Jolla Man Involved in 3-Car Crash on I-5

The crash on southbound I-5 near the Santa Margarita River overcrossing occurred about 9:40 p.m. Thursday, according to police.

A 28-year-old Chula Vista man was hospitalized with major injuries and facing drunken driving charges for causing a three-car crash on Interstate 5 in Oceanside, authorities said.

The crash on southbound I-5 near the Santa Margarita River overcrossing occurred about 9:40 p.m. Thursday, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Tommy Doerr.

The man was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier when he abruptly made an unsafe left turn, crossing directly into the path of other southbound vehicles, Doerr said in a statement. The Chevrolet was broadsided by a 2004 Honda Accord driven by a 63-year-old Oceanside woman, he said.
