Illegal Immigrants Come Ashore in North PB; Two Dead

Two people died as a result of two separate maritime smuggling events along San Diego's coastline on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

The U.S. Border Patrol reported that two people died as a result of two separate maritime smuggling events in San Diego on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

A boat carrying several suspected illegal immigrants washed ashore in northern Pacific Beach early Wednesday. The boat was found at the foot of Law Street, a popular surf break, before 2:30 a.m., according to San Diego police Sgt. Tom Wood.

One passenger had fatal injuries. Medics transported an additional nine people to local hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries, a San Diego Fire-Rescue dispatcher said.

In a separate incident two suspected illegal immigrants were arrested around midnight near the Tijuana River.

Initial contact with the men was made at Monument Road and Hollister Street in San Diego. Border Patrol officials could not confirm details of the incident in the Tijuana River, but did confirm the fatality.

The Border Patrol was investigating both incidents on Wednesday morning.
