Dead Female Found on UCSD Campus

San Diego Fire Department found an unidentified female in a burning vehicle last night.

San Diego Police are investigating the death of an unidentified female found in a UC San Diego parking lot last night.

Police received several reports of a burning vehicle in the east commuter lot on the 3600 block of Voigt Drive on the UC San Diego campus last night at 9:20 p.m., according to police. The San Diego Fire Department responded to the scene shortly after to distinguish the fire, and "when they examined the interior of the vehicle, noticed a deceased female inside," said SDPD.

Police released a statement early this morning stating that the cause of her death is not yet known. The 4:40 a.m. statement said an autopsy has been scheduled for this morning.

According to CBS 8, police helicopters circled overhead last night and officers were on foot searching for possible suspects in the area.

The large parking lot where the vehicle was found is east of Interstate 5 near a baseball field. It has more than 600 parking spaces.
