Border Agents Spot Boat off La Jolla, Arrest Two with 399 Pounds of Pot

Border agents turned over two men to the San Diego Air and Marine Task Force.

Federal agents picked up two suspected drug traffickers Tuesday in Del Mar. The two were on a fishing boat with nearly 400 pounds of marijuana.

U.S. Border Patrol agents spotted the two off the coast of La Jolla at approximately 3 a.m. They were reportedly operating the boat without lights in the darkness, according to Michael Jimenez of the Border Patrol.

Agents monitored the boat till it came to shore just south of Dog Beach shortly before 4 a.m.

Jimenez said the suspects tried to restart the outboard motor when they saw Border Patrol agents approach in the early morning but were unable to do so.

The drugs were wrapped in 26 bundles and weighed a total of 399 pounds, according to officials, with an estimated street value of nearly $240,000.

Two Mexican men, ages 28 and 41, were arrested in connection with the incident. Their names were not released to the public. The duo was turned over to the San Diego Air and Marine Task Force.
