Bicycle Crash Sends Man to Hospital With Life-Threatening Head Injury

The 72-year-old cyclist was riding downhill toward the beach on N. Torrey Pines Road.

A 72-year-old man suffered a life-threatening head injury Saturday morning after he lost control of his bicycle as he was riding downhill on N. Torrey Pines Road, according to San Diego police.

The cyclist was riding toward the beach around 8:30 a.m. in the 11600 block of N. Torrey Pines Road, according to Sgt. Ray Battrick. For an unknown reason the man, whose name was not released, fell off the bike and struck his head. He was wearing a helmet, according to Battrick.

The injured cyclist was taken to a hospital. The San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division is investigating the crash.
