Real World Recap: Pieces of Priscilla

Episode 8 hones in on SD native Priscilla and her awkward relationship with a past love.

Gone are the days of hot tub hook ups on the set of Real World. Tonight’s episode was another syrupy-sweet, feel-good show

San Diego gal Priscilla was the main event tonight. We got to see a new side of her—you know, the one where she’s not in her pajamas driving the other drunk roomies home. Rather, tonight we saw her extremely awkward relationship with ex-boyfriend Dylan.

“Dyl Pickle” as he’s affectionately called by the house, has been stopping by frequently at the Bird Rock mansion for some one on one time with Priscilla. He even does two and a half months of laundry. Zach, in his ongoing quest of concern for others, suggests that Dylan see a doctor and have his testosterone levels checked. What a nice guy!

Dylan and Priscilla canoodle in the bed throughout the episode, each time with Priscilla feeling guilty or awkward or bored. Even when they went to breakfast at Café 976 in PB the air was thick with an uncomfortable fog. Everything is punctuated with a nervous giggle or goofy grin. Newsflash Priscilla: if it’s this awkward, it’s not meant to be. He’s only there for airtime and some lovin’. You can do much better.

The only real pleasure I found in Dylan invading the original gang of Real World was his scooter/motorcycle? Nate, Ashley, Zach and Frank decide to pull a prank and hide said scooter from Dylan. A friendly neighbor (why aren’t my neighbors ever this cool??) offers to hide the bike in his driveway with a tarp.

Dylan comes home and freaks out about his missing bike. There just so happens to be a police car in the neighborhood and Dyl Pickle flags him down to file a police report. Somehow, no one (meaning Ashley, Zach, Nate or Frank) loses their cool about all of this and keep the prank going. They even tell Dylan that the neighbor stole his bike and sold it to someone else. Somehow, everyone got a laugh out of it—especially the prankster neighbor.

In the end, Priscilla ends things with Dylan, who is going back to Hogwarts…I mean, college. She cries, Alex soothes.

The substory of the night was Warped Tour. The Real World cast, via their job at the House of Blues, got to work the concert. The goal? Wear a shirt or tattoo that contained a barcode and get as many people as they could to scan the barcodes with their smartphones. Scanners got the chance to win some tickets to the House of Blues shows and the person who got the most scans won $500.

Zach, Nate, Frank and Ashley decided to team up (Team Purple!) and use Ashley as barcode bait. They even cheat (in my eyes, it was cheating) and have people scan multiple times with one phone.

Alex takes the challenge seriously and spends the whole day finding people to scan her—figuratively speaking. She’s bummed no one teamed up with her and is certain she lost the contest.

However, the HoB bossmen take the total number of scans Team Purple had and divide it by four. Alex ends up winning the money and plans to send a majority of it over to Zimbabwe to help out family members still living there. If she hadn’t won the money, I would have thrown my mug of hot chocolate at the TV. I think she may be the best person I know—again, figuratively speaking.

Some Personal Notes

  • I love seeing Alex and Priscilla bond. Maybe it’s because they don’t get much airtime and there’s little drama in their lives, but it warms my heart. I loved the song writing sesh on the couch.
  • What was up with that hate message that Frank left Mike? There was no mention of it, just the quick little message before they all left for work. Trouble in paradise?
  • It’s no secret I like Alex. She seems the most down to earth person and has a really good heart. Watching her perform at with The Hats ( when they first collaborated?!) was incredible and seeing her emotional reaction afterward may or may not have gotten me teary-eyed. More, more!
  • Zach thinks he can catch "gingeritis" from bed sheets, but I’m pretty sure that’s something you get when you don’t brush your teeth…

Recap: Dylan and Priscilla call it quits for now. Alex found her calling as a performer. Frank is mad at his lover Mike. And Nate, Zach and Ashley have some weird bond.

Next week: MTV thinks that “Thanksgiving with your family is real enough” so they’re cutting us all a break and returning the show in two weeks. That means we have to wait until Nov. 30 to see Nate break a co-workers heart and Frank screw things up with Mike. Bummer.
