Now that the Thanksgiving turkeys are gone, it’s time to bring back the turkeys of MTV.
Real World: San Diego shot in La Jolla was back Wednesday night and so was Frank’s drama. Oh, and Nate’s, too. Tonight’s theme was cheating, or perhaps ignorance, or maybe just stupidity.
Housemate Frank and Mike have been dating for what, two weeks? Maybe a month. But everyone in the house loves Mike, including housemate Zach, who thinks he brings out the best in Frank, which makes Zach want Mike around all the time. But Frank seems to have other plans that don’t involve the cute, adorable, highly-likeable Mike.
Mike lives two hours away, in what I presume to be L.A. He has limited time with Frank and the one weekend he doesn’t come down to snuggle in the hot tub and be told how much he’s loved, what does Frank do? He meets up with Todd, a supposed dead ringer for Frank’s first love Pete, and spends the night with him. As in, knocked boots.
The whole time that’s happening, housemate Alex and Mike are arranging a surprise visit for Frank. When Frank takes the walk of shame home from Todd’s house, the group goes out to breakfast and is surprised by Mike. I mean, surprised. Frank looks more horrified than anything else.
Frank eventually confesses to Mike that he slept with Todd and Mike forgives him. Just like that. Just like in the beginning of the episode when Mike was so cool about Frank practically molesting girls (including housemate Ashley!) in a club in front of him. Mike’s just an understanding guy…or maybe he’s a doormat. Whatever the case, he didn’t deserve to be cheated on by Frank, a man who awkwardly expresses his love to Mike as often as he can with little to no reciprocation.
Mike eventually ends thing via email and Frank sleeps with Todd again. I took my beer goggles off for good measure, but I’m pretty sure Todd isn’t half as cute as Mike. Just sayin’, Frank!
While Frank was sleeping around with un-hot Toddy, Nate was two-timing his boss—he just didn’t know it. Yes, Nate made the huge mistake of sleeping with House of Blues boss Michelle (and being so loud about it that the whole house could hear) and then completely ignoring her.
He wined her and dined her, cuddled with her on the beach. He even called her up at 2 a.m. for a booty call, though he insists it was just a cuddle call with a burrito thrown in. Michelle obviously had feelings for Nate and comes over to the house to hang out with Nate after he hooks up with a girl named Kristen at a club.
Nate completely ignores Michelle, thinking they’re “on the same page” and Michelle leaves the house after telling Nate that she’s “never had a grown man treat me that way.” Nate’s face is priceless, but he snaps back after about 2.5 seconds.
That was pretty much the whole episode. Less notable subjects of the night were:
- Ashley gets jealous of a girl groping Zach at a club and confronts him. He tells her “I’m with you” and they resolve things over a Subway turkey sandwich.
- Sam was dressed like Justin Bieber at Nate’s fashion show fundraiser.
- Nate also ignores Michelle at his fashion show for Nate's nonprofit The Living Memoir, which is held at Stingaree. Nate ogles the models the whole night who are distastefully modeling t-shirts that say “Living Memoir.” Seemed a bit inappropriate for the cause…
- Ashley walked the runway for the fashion show and forgot to stop at the end of the runway. What would Tyra say?
- Zach is pretty angry that Frank cheated on Mike. I think it’s more for selfish reasons (i.e. now who’s going to put Frank in a good mood??) than anything else.
Notable SD Places Visited in Tonight’s Episode:
- The Eggery in PB
- Stingaree downtown
- The Brass Rail in Hillcrest
Recap: Nate and Frank mess up over their love lives. Ashley and Zach are in a relationship they both deny. And Alex does something nice and cutie pie Mike is gone forever.
Next week: Sam shows off her drag king side. Frank causes more (and more, and more) drama.
