Poll: Are Conservatives Trying to Limit Women’s Access to Birth Control?

Sandra Fluke’s testimony before House panel revived issue of taxpayer-backed contraception.

In an essay reprinted in the online site San Diego Free Press, Andrew Jenkins writes: “Make no mistake about it: Birth control is under attack because it empowers young people with the agency to make healthy choices about sex and sexuality.” Further, he argues that the “progressive community is deathly afraid of talking about sex and young people.” Is Jenkins right—and that conservatives are trying to roll back access to contraceptives?

Batman
8:49 am on Monday, August 27, 2012 Yes Mr. Pinco, the marxist takeover of America. I obviously hit a nerve there. --------------------------------- The suggestion that you could touch a nerve is laughable...I would first have to believe that you are in touch with reality.

Ding ding ding ding; You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension - a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into the Twilight Zone.
Ron Selkovitch August 27, 2012 at 02:48 pm
Well, Batman and Loki. your obsessional hatred of Marxism and Communism blinds you to the purpose of government. Tell us what you think is a correct relationship between parents, children and government. Should a parent have unlimited control over a child even if it involves physical and sexual abuse. should a child make her own decisions, including abortion, with no governmental intervention to assist the parent?
I really would like to hear some constructive answers.
Doug Curlee August 27, 2012 at 03:55 pm
ron.. it's got nothing to do with socialism, or communism..
it's got to do with a blind irrational hatred of barack obama.. and being fed by rightwingnut websites and hate radio.. that's all.. doug
Craig Maxwell August 27, 2012 at 04:16 pm
"It has has nothing to do with socialism or communism," though Obama has had explicit ties with members of both.

While Barack Obama turns his head, Russia is preparing for a new Naval Base in Cuba if Barack gets re-elected. This part of the "Flexibility" statement made months ago to then Russian Prime Minister Dimitri Medvedev. Will Barack Obama give Guantanamo to the Russians or will they have to build a new one? We believe he will just sign Gitmo off to the Russians.

tater..
if you actually believe one single word you read on breitbart, then there's no sense even debating with you..you're already lost.. and i won't.. doug
Kevin George August 27, 2012 at 05:07 pm
How 'bout Reuters?

Holy smokes....there are people from la la la land on this blog.

Many Americans have lost their fear of communism. It's odd for someone like Doug though, because his profession will cease to exist in a communist regime.

Many Americans have got tired of the right wing smoke screen of anytime society attempts to work together on a common problem...some joker starts yelling socialism. That tired refrain is no longer working. There is a place for government, there is a place of the private sector...and both the extreme right and extreme left have it wrong....its just that the right wing extremists have fought for a seat at the table and now we have to fight back and rescind their invitation.

"An author, journalist, and social anthropologist (PhD Harvard), Stanley Kurtz is a senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, and a contributing editor to National Review Online." National Review, not exactly an unbiased source...if you fill your mind with crap, all you will get out is........
Kevin George August 27, 2012 at 06:20 pm
Alexpinca, I don't want to be mislead, please let me know where we can go for an unbiased opinion.
Craig Maxwell August 27, 2012 at 06:21 pm
Ah, what's 100 million victims?
As the French revolutionaries used to say, "To make an omelette, you have to break a few eggs."
alexpinca August 27, 2012 at 06:25 pm
Newsweek, Time, USA Today...and many others but they won't tell you what you want to hear....the right wing doesn't want information, they want right wing leaning cheerleaders.
Kevin George August 27, 2012 at 06:40 pm
But who could possibly absorb all that " in depth" coverage.
And who could forget: http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1998486_1998446_1998291,00.html
alexpinca August 27, 2012 at 06:48 pm
Sorry Kevin, the point? They select the person of the year on very narrow criteria...not who is the smartest guy on the block but had the greatest impact that year.
Dave Fenner August 27, 2012 at 07:06 pm
Are you serious? Newsweek, Time, unbiased? I have not heard that in a long time.
send me an article on the nations news from Newsweek, any article, and I'll show you the liberal bias. Same for NY Times, MSNBC, NBC, etc. Take the challenge yourself. look at what they say objectively.
Kevin George August 27, 2012 at 07:10 pm
Not so narrow a criteria as to eliminate murdering terrorists.
I'll be looking for Bashar al Assad this year, he's a sure thing.
Kevin George August 27, 2012 at 07:12 pm
Dave, look at it this way.....He left out "Mother Jones".
Doug Curlee August 27, 2012 at 07:36 pm
so,, kevin and batman
kev, are you saying thaty ONLY ameri a has the right to have bases around the world?..sounds like it.. batman.. put down your john birch society operations manual;..communism is dying around the world..hell, even china is becoming capitalistic..and i'm just not owrried about cuba, north korea, or whatever the hell venezuela is these days..and you wouldn't be, either..if the rightwingnuts weren't telling you you have to be. doug
Kevin George August 27, 2012 at 07:56 pm
No Doug, please reel in the bias extender.
If you would read carefully instead of jerking your knee like that, you would see I was only pointing out the fact that the Russians are looking at Cuba as a possible naval base has been in the news for weeks. But somehow you missed it , but that didn't stop you. You saw " Breitbart" and you reacted without knowing anything about the facts yet KNEW it was false. It's called bias, we all have it , but only some of us know it.
alexpinca August 27, 2012 at 08:07 pm
as I said children....they give the news, not your daily quota of right wing fascist fodder. Don't like the facts? Just start your own right wing TV News FOX, Don't like an unbiased Senior Organization? Start your own, don't like the radio news...fill the airwaves with the most vile, venomous horse manure you can imagine...you guys are not retrievable...

Don't go away mad......
Doug Curlee August 27, 2012 at 08:48 pm
kevin.. almost any of america's major newspapers are good..
some may have a liberal lean, some may have a conservative lean..but generally speaking they cover the NEWS straight down the middle..it's their EDITORIAL pages that lean..most major papers keep the two as far apart as possible.. read and study them, and you'll be a LOT better off information-wise.. that's pretty much how i do mine..and then i make up my OWN mind off the facts i'm getting from those sources.. doug
Ron Selkovitch August 27, 2012 at 08:52 pm
Is this just a throw away statement, Craig, or can you substantiate it.Of course you can ascribe any meaning you like to "explicit ties'
Doug Curlee August 27, 2012 at 09:45 pm
kevin, kevin, kevin..
what are we to do with you?.. of course i knew about the russians looking at cuba.. again.. but the "obama looks the other way" crap?..where the hell does THAT come from?.. tyou have no idea WHAT obama is thinking aboug that, do you?..but if breitbart is to be believed.. (which it never should be)..obama is brokering the sale of waterfront property to vladimir putin.. is that about your mindset on this one? doug
alexpinca August 27, 2012 at 09:47 pm
There's no question that various media outfits have their own biases; however, they at least make an effort toward balance. Like outlined by Curlee...they make a real effort to separate editorial position from the news, that is far more than I can say for right wing media. Mainstream journalist's first allegiance is to their profession...again more than I can say for right wing media.
