Cell Towers in our Park!

Dear Parents and La Jolla residents,

If you agree that MEGA Cells Towers should not be placed in our beautiful recreational parks of La Jolla, please take only 1 minute of your time and sign the following petition: http://chn.ge/1wbJDiQ

We need 1000 signatures to make this valuable before San Diego Mayor and therefore we need all the help we can from concerns parents and residents.

Please forward this also to your spouse, friends, family members and relevant contacts to collect all the signatures we can! Also, if you use Facebook and other social media sites, please post the petition. Anyone can sign it and it's a very easy ask.

Today it is regarding AT&T trying to get a new 30 foot tall MEGA cell tower in Cliffridge Park where lots of little leagues are practicing daily, next to the La Jolla YMCA and Torrey Pines Elementary but tomorrow, if this tower is allowed, it will set precedent for AT&T and other phone carriers to bring more towers in any parks in La Jolla.
There is no up-to-date data on the exact repercussion of such cell towers proximity on human beings less on children and the American Association of Pediatrics have expressed their clear concern on the subject. So why take the risk when phone carriers can find many other sites more appropriate for their cell towers?

For most of us, the health of our children is the first concern we have regarding this, but unfortunately the city cannot deny a cell tower based on a health fact. The following facts are also of concern and the only grounds that we can use for the Mayor to deny Cell towers in city Parks:

§  This kind of commercial use of our park land should not be happening anywhere in our City.  This is illegal and it is wrong.
§  The bulk and scale of the project are incompatible with the park. §  Our City Charter prohibits this kind of commercial use of City park land. §  Our City is not allowed to lease our park land for non-park purposes without a vote of the people. §  Renting our park land to private companies is illegal.  Our parks are for recreation, not for rent. §  The La Jolla Shores Planned District Ordinance prohibits commercial use of City park land. §  La Jolla community groups have voted decisively to oppose this project because it is an illegal use of our park.
If you want to receive following information on this issue, notably the meeting date with the City's Planning Commission please reply-back with a "please add me to the list" subject and your address will be added to our group list!
Thanks a million for your consideration!
