UCSD to Host Memorial for Artist Ernest Silva

A memorial service is scheduled for Ernest Silva, an artist and UC San Diego instructor for three decades, today at 4 p.m.

Silva, best known for "The Rain House" at the New Children's Museum, died Feb. 24 at the age of 65.

The university said Silva was an accomplished painter and sculptor, he has exhibited widely within and beyond southern California. It added that arts writer Robert L. Pincus said, "Like Silva himself, his art works his effects on you modestly and quietly. Spend a little time with it and you would feel its force, its sense of wonder and mystery."

Silva joined the faculty in 1979 and retired in July 2013.

The memorial service will be held at UCSD's Faculty Club on campus.
