J.M. Tarvin, Former La Jolla High Principal, Dies at 79

J.M. Tarvin, a retired educator with the San Diego Unified School District, died Dec. 14. He was 79. 

Tarvin enlisted in the Navy after high school and was sent overseas during the Korean conflict where he was badly injured in a plane crash, according to report in the U-T San Diego. However, after his discharge, he used the GI bill to attend the University of Nebraska where he received a Masters in education.

Tarvin was principal at La Jolla High School from 1984 to 1996 and principal at Muirlands Middle School from 1980 to 1984, according to the La Jolla Light.

He is survived by his wife Judy; daughter Christy (Greg); his stepchildren James Bouck (Megan), Matthew Bouck (Lori), and Amy Vullo (Marc); sister Barbara Joyce Huddle (Clyde); and eight grandchildren with one on the way.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 21  at Shadow Mountain Community Church, 2100 Greenfield Dr., El Cajon.
