Sea Lion Entangled in Fishing Net Saved

San Diego lifeguards and SeaWorld San Diego officials released a sea lion on Friday that was tangled in a fishing net.

A juvenile California sea lion entangled in a fishing net was rescued Friday by SeaWorld San Diego personnel and San Diego lifeguards.

The 175-pound sea lion was discovered on a rocky stretch of beach in La Jolla near Devil's Slide around 3 p.m., and four rescuers had to rappel down to the shore to reach the marine mammal.

They freed the sea lion from the net and removed a hook that had punctured its lower lip, according to SeaWorld.
