The La Jolla 2012 Relay For Life kicked off Saturday morning at . The annual American Cancer Society fundraiser celebrates the lives of people who have battled cancer, remembers loved ones lost, and fights back against the disease.
Several bands played throughout the day to motivate relay walkers and a survivor ceremony was held Saturday afternoon. Survivors released doves and walked a "survivor lap" with cheers from relay participants and supporters.
As of Saturday evening, the La Jolla Relay For Life website estimated more than $40,000 had been raised by the event.
The 24-hour event will conclude Sunday morning with Fight Back Ceremony at 8 a.m.
