445,500 Visit San Diego and La Jolla Beaches Memorial Day Weekend

An estimated 445,500 people visited San Diego's beaches including La Jolla and bays areas over the three-day Memorial Day weekend, and of those, 106 were suspected of committing alcohol-related crimes, police said Tuesday.

From 7 a.m. Saturday to 11 p.m. Monday, officers took 56 people to detox facilities and six to jail, according to San Diego police.

Five minors were found in possession of alcohol and 39 misdemeanor alcohol citations were issued, SDPD Capt. Brian Ahearn said.

In addition to dealing with alcohol-related crimes, officers issued 87 traffic citations and 66 parking citations, he said.
